This win was not just an on field triumph; it was the realization of a dream cherished by generations of female cricketers. In a poignant gesture following their win, Harmanpreet, along with her teammates, dedicated the World Cup trophy to icons Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, and Anjum Chopra, acknowledging their significant contributions to Indian women’s cricket.

These legends participated in the team’s victory lap, representing the connection between past challenges and current success. Speaking to the ICC Review, Harmanpreet recounted the touching background of that moment: “After the 2022 World Cup, we were devastated.

It was the final World Cup for Jhulan di and Mithali di, and we couldn’t clinch it for them. Smriti and I vowed that next time, they would be there when we did. This time, it finally happened.” Witnessing the celebrations, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, who were at the stadium for commentary, were moved to tears. Harmanpreet also expressed her thanks to Diana Edulji, Shubhangi Kulkarni, and Sudha Shah, respected figures who have been pillars in Indian women’s cricket for years.

She remarked, “Sharing this moment with them made it even more special. Every time we envisioned this victory, they were part of it. This trophy belongs to every woman who laid the groundwork for our success.” With this achievement, Harmanpreet Kaur became the third Indian captain to hoist a World Cup trophy, joining the ranks of the legendary Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, who led India to World Cup victories in 1983 and 2011, respectively.
