In a quiet but strong moment, Rohit Sharma announced he is retiring from Test cricket without any press conference or media announcement. He simply shared a single Instagram story. No words. No fuss. But the message was clear and felt by everyone in the cricket world.

This decision came just before for the upcoming series against England, surprising both fans and experts.

In an interview with Michael Clarke, Rohit sounded hopeful. He said, “After IPL, we’ll have a fully fit team. It should be a good series.” At that time, there were no signs of an upcoming retirement.

Even when experts like Irfan Pathan asked about his absence from Test matches, Rohit responded openly:

This is not a retirement announcement. I haven’t played because my bat isn’t performing well. But who knows what happens in six months? Life changes quickly. I’ve played this game long enough to know when it’s time to stop. No one else decides

Finding Form Again in IPL 2025
Rohit didn’t start strong in IPL 2025, but as the tournament went on, he regained his rhythm and confidence. In the last few games, he played well almost like his old self. That’s why his retirement from Test cricket felt so sudden.

Rohit Sharma’s exit from Test cricket wasn’t just the end of his career phase in test cricket, it marked the end of an impressive chapter. As India gets ready for the England Test series, they will do so without one of their most experienced leaders.
