The fourth Test of the high-stakes India tour of England is set to begin on July 23, 2025, at Old Trafford, Manchester. After India’s disappointing loss in the third Test at Lord’s, several questions have surfaced regarding team selection, form, and fitness.
One of the biggest concerns heading into the fourth Test is the injury to Rishabh Pant. The star wicketkeeper batsman suffered a finger injury during the third Test, a blow that could impact India’s strategy in both batting and wicketkeeping departments. With the series hanging in the balance, his availability has become a key focus.
However, the Indian team management has given a strong hint that Pant will play. Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed, “We can’t keep Rishabh out of the Test, no matter what. We will ensure he is available to Play during the Manchester Test.” This statement suggests Pant’s recovery is being fast-tracked to keep him in the XI.
Another major talking point is Jasprit Bumrah’s potential return. The fast bowler, who was rested earlier in the series, is now expected to feature in the crucial Test. The head coach said, “With the series on the line, we are leaning toward playing Bumrah.”

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, speaking on Follow the Blues via JioCinema and Hotstar, addressed the team’s performance issues. He said, “We’ve been excellent for large parts of the series, but losing wickets in a short span has cost us.” He also highlighted the need for more contributions from the top order, especially the No. 3 batsman, saying the message to him is “clear.”
Ten Doeschate added, “The dressing room is confident. These are world-class players. Rishabh’s injury is being closely monitored. He’s a fighter, and we’re doing everything to get him ready.”
As India prepares for the must-win Manchester Test, the spotlight is firmly on Pant’s fitness, Bumrah’s return, and the team’s ability to bounce back after the Lord’s defeat.
