Deepak Hooda has been participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2015, most recently playing for Chennai Super Kings in 2025. In that season, he garnered only 31 runs over 7 matches, struggling to make a significant impact in the middle order. Once valued for his dual contributions with bat and ball, Hooda’s recent inconsistency reduced his appeal. IPL teams currently favor reliable multi-skilled players capable of quickly altering the course of a game, a standard Hooda did not meet.

K.S. Bharat’s journey in the IPL has been intermittent. Acquired by the Delhi Daredevils in 2015, he did not play that season. His subsequent opportunity arose with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, followed by short tenures with Delhi Capitals (2022), Gujarat Titans (2023), and Kolkata Knight Riders (2024). Although Bharat is a technically proficient wicketkeeper, he struggled to secure regular opportunities as teams now prefer wicketkeepers who score rapidly and fit into aggressive batting strategies.

Mayank Agarwal’s unselection surprised many. Known as a reliable international opener, he was recruited as a replacement player by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2025 after less impressive earlier seasons. However, the IPL has shifted from favoring traditional ancho style openers. With the emphasis on the Impact Player rule and powerplay aggression, franchises are inclined toward younger players who attack from the outset.

Chetan Sakariya initially impressed with his left arm pace and swing, representing teams like Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Unfortunately, injuries and infrequent game time hindered his progress. In the current IPL context, teams are hesitant to sign bowlers with fitness concerns, regardless of past potential.

Navdeep Saini’s last IPL appearance was in 2023, playing just 2 matches where he conceded 74 runs in 36 balls and collected 3 wickets. His pace is a valuable asset; however, his inconsistency and high economy rates were deterrents. Teams preferred bowlers who offer greater control in pressure situations.

Umesh Yadav’s absence highlights the league’s evolving priorities. In IPL 2024, he played 7 matches, conceding 210 runs and claiming 8 wickets, demonstrating occasional value. Nevertheless, due to age and injury concerns, franchises opted for younger fast bowlers with long-term potential.

Sandeep Warrier played for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, appearing in 5 matches, conceding 119 runs, and taking 6 wickets. Despite respectable performance metrics, teams prioritized either bowlers with express pace or specialists for the end of innings. Warrier’s balanced capabilities did not sufficiently stand out in a competitive auction landscape.
