He commended Richa Ghosh’s remarkable performance in the World Cup final, where her innings of 34 runs off 17 balls was crucial in India’s victory over South Africa. Ganguly likened her to stars such as Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, calling her “a match-winner and a finisher.”
Reflecting on his experience as captain, Ganguly expressed optimism about Richa Ghosh’s potential to lead the Indian women’s team in the future, citing her maturity, confidence, and tactical acumen. He emphasized the importance of early leadership development to inspire future champions.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee applauded Richa’s determination and her role in the nation’s historic win, affirming the state government’s ongoing support for women’s cricket in West Bengal and her dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure to develop more talents like Richa and Jhulan.
Additionally, Ganguly announced plans for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to establish a state-of-the-art cricket academy catering to aspiring female cricketers.
