September 26, 2025 The International Cricket Council (ICC) has concluded hearings into disciplinary charges against Pakistan cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan, following incidents during the Asia Cup 2025 clash against India on September 21.

Both players came under the spotlight after on field celebrations and gestures sparked controversy, with critics accusing them of introducing political or war-related symbolism into cricket.

Haris Rauf was accused of making a provocative “6-0” hand gesture toward Indian fans, which many interpreted as a reference to historical conflicts and cricketing records. He was also alleged to have used abusive language and aggressive gestures.

Sahibzada Farhan was questioned for his gunshot-style celebration, which some linked to political undertones.

The ICC Code of Conduct prohibits political, religious, or military references during international cricket matches.

During his hearing, Haris Rauf defended his actions by challenging the interpretation of his gesture:

Can you explain what ‘6-0’ means?” he reportedly asked the match referee.

When the referee suggested the gesture might imply “something else,” Rauf insisted it was meant only as a light-hearted response to fans.

Sahibzada Farhan, meanwhile, argued his celebration had no political intent, stressing that it reflected cultural traditions of his Pashtun background

“In our region, guns are part of celebratory culture. During weddings, people often fire blank shots. My celebration was simply a cultural expression, nothing political.”

Farhan also cited examples of Indian players such as MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who in the past used similar action-based celebrations.

Rauf has been fined 30% of his match fee for breaching the ICC’s code, while Farhan has received a formal reprimand. No suspensions were imposed, meaning both players remain available for selection in the upcoming Asia Cup final.
