Virat Kohli’s stance on the BCCI’s family restrictions rule has found support from legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced this rule after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, limiting family members from joining players during long tours. Under this rule, families can only visit after the first two weeks of a tour if it exceeds 45 days.
Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli shared his thoughts on the impact of this regulation. He emphasized that having family around during extended tours helps players cope with pressure, especially during tough times. Kohli pointed out that being surrounded by loved ones allows players to maintain a sense of normalcy, which in turn helps them handle the responsibilities of the game better.

“If you ask any player, ‘Do you want your family to be around all the time?’ The answer will be yes,” Kohli said. “I don’t want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility. You finish that responsibility, and you come back to life.
